Pumpkin Carvin'

Brooke and I have never been too excited about Halloween. However, this year we felt extra motivated after coming up with the idea of making Obama pumpkins. So last Sunday we went to Lane Farms for their pumpkin patch and corn maze. The corn maze is pretty fun. It took us about 15 minutes to get through. It's just big enough to get lost in, but not too big to become frustrating and annoying. The prices at Lane Farms were pretty high ($15 for a 12 inch diameter pumpkin), so we decided to buy the pumpkins at Pirate Jacks in Carpinteria. We got 4 pumpkins for $25.We went home to carve our pumpkins....Tools & Supplies:
- printed stencil from yeswecarve.com
- tape
- pumpkin carving set (saws, plastic scraper, poker)
- wood carving tool set

I decided to carve Obama's face, while Brooke did the Obama O-logo.
Here's me using the poker to transfer the stencil image onto the pumpkin....Carving with a wood chisel....
The finished product....Our friend carved the cat....Unfortunately, we forgot to immediately take a picture of Brooke's pumpkin. By the time of Halloween (5 days later), both our pumpkins had grown moldy. Brooke's pumpkin collapsed entirely, while mine held up long enough to be displayed. Lesson learned...do not carve pumpkins more than 2 or 3 days ahead.
